Innovator Viscgo accesses funding for launch of life-changing dysphagia aid
Viscgo

A medtech start-up about to launch a groundbreaking new product has praised our corporate team's role in helping them secure funding. We worked with Viscgo to help them finalise an investment round via The Enterprise Fund. The injection of capital, which came via a cohort of institutional and private investors, will allow Viscgo to deliver a product which could improve the quality of life for people living with dysphagia.

The company's drink thickness test sticks help healthcare professionals to manage dysphagia, a condition which causes the sufferer to experience swallowing difficulties. Now, following their successful funding round, the Viscgo sticks are set to be launched on 1 July in an exciting new phase in the start-up's lifecycle.

Commenting on the support they received from Harper James Solicitors, Viscgo’s company secretary, Martyn Boaden, said: 'The service we received from Harper James Solicitors was very efficient and everything was handled in a professional and diligent way. This funding will help us deliver a solution that we believe will help people suffering from dysphagia and also aid healthcare workers in hospitals and care homes who are often having to treat and manage the condition.'

Our corporate associate Callum Gilliker who supported Viscgo at each stage of the process, said: 'The company has a very clear vision for its next step, and I am pleased that this funding round will help to put such a useful product on the market. It is always gratifying when a client has a good idea of what legal assistance they need and what questions they need answers to. The approach taken was a collaborative one and I got a lot out of working with Martyn and the team at Viscgo.'

Viscgo was founded by Dr Liz Boaden FRCSLT and Steven Bookbinder. Based at Manchester Science Park, it was set up to provide solutions to test that a drink thickened for patients with dysphagia is at the prescribed consistency. The company is now also designing solutions to address issues with texture-modified food for people with dysphagia. Viscgo has ambitious plans to expand internationally and to bring its lifechanging innovation for to people living with dysphagia around the world.
