Karen Mason

Karen Mason is a commercial partner at Harper James with over 30 years’ experience practising business law. She has been a senior lawyer and partner in private practice as well as in-house counsel to some of the UK’s most highly regarded broadcast, media and internet companies.

Having qualified in 1993 at Clifford Chance, Karen has since held in-house positions at the BBC, the Press Association and Demon Internet, working at the forefront of the fast-evolving legal frameworks which impact on the use of the internet by individuals and organisations.

Karen’s experience with the rapid deployment of new technologies perfectly complements her entrepreneurial spirit and desire to innovate, allowing her to provide strategic commercial advice along with comprehensive legal support.

Karen has acted for start-ups and charities through to PLCs, working closely with all levels of personnel from MD/CEO to contracts administrator. She specialises in:

  • IT and internet
  • e-commerce
  • intellectual property law
  • drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts

Karen’s clients praise her as professional, efficient and personable, with a practical approach to problem solving.

Outside of work Karen is a keen musician, who loves bringing people together to make music whether that be in a small group, a band or an orchestra. And luckily her neighbours like music too!
